This book was addicting. I read it in just a few hours, which is unusual for me because I'm a very slow reader (like, average sixth grader reading speed slow).
The characters in Vampire Academy were just fantastic. They were all so real because they all had flaws and motivations or intentions behind their actions.
Rose, even though she was very funny, could be really cruel and mean sometimes, and it was hard to like her at those moments, but how much she cared for Lissa made it impossible for me to hate her. She always put Lissa's well-being before her own. Likewise, though Lissa could be annoying at parts, everything she was willing to go through for Rose made her very likable.
Dimitri was... wow. He's definitely what you'd call swoon-worthy. (Not appearance wise. I don't remember what he's supposed to look like. I just know I didn't like it.) He takes being a guardian very seriously, and that level of dedication is what made him so swoon-worthy for me.
As for other characters, most (if not all) of the Moroi annoyed the crap out of me. They were so weak, and dependent on the Dhampir, yet they still considered the Dhampir to be lesser beings. Like, are you freaking kidding me?
The narration was really great because it's written in first person from Rose's POV, and I could feel her personality in the writing (like her cockiness).
The plot is the only thing in the book that was a bit lacking for me. Rose has a rather short attention span, so it veered off course very often, and while it was interesting, it was a bit frustrating.
Overall, Vampire Academy was a great book, and I'm very excited to read the rest of the series :)

Could not put the book down, the entire series was amazing, a nice pace there was always something happening. If you even just somewhat like vampire novels you will LOVE this one.

this is a great book..an addition to my other favorites..
and what really matters in this story is the bond is between bestfriends and not lovers..
at first though,..i can't quite get the essnce of the story.. i even think if i'd jump reading..forgetting about the prologue.. but then as i read further.. i realized that the story is actually flashing back to the prologue which i assumed earlier..lol..
rose..is really someone i should admire for..for her boldness..
the story is further associated with St. vladimir and shadow-kissed Anna.. on which near the end of the story rose realize is actually like them.. a spirit user(Lissa) and a shadow-kissed(Rose).. which happens because lissa brought her back when she died at the car accident which killed lissa's family..
the story twist at the end where the one person whom they considered as a family turns out to be after lissa, because she can heal him..
this is really a full of action book..
and i wish that dimitri and rose relationship could really blossom.. one thing i hate about rose..she's flirty..
though still charming..
"Occasional steamy sex and a scattering of vulgar language demand mature readers, but teens able to handle the edgy elements will speed through this vamp story and anticipate the next installment."
"With social angst that every teenager can appreciate and sexual tension that leaves Stephenie Meyer's Twilight...looking like a children's book, this little gem is sure to be a hit."
