Fascinating, fascinating, fascinating. Picked this up on a whim and a gift card, and have been enrapt ever since. I'm not ambitious enough to do half this stuff, but it's amazing how much I could do with the limited time and space I do have. Very straightforward, no-nonsense, first-hand methods and advice.

This book is incredible! The information provided is definitely 1st hand knowledge from the author. It gives instructions on how to put together your crops with or without animals in different configurations according to the shape and size of your yard. The garden shape or size space recommendations for the type of plants you want to grow, how to prepare soil, suggestions for crop rotation, how to grow fruit, nuts, beans, any vegetable, even fruit trees and grape arbors - are ALL in this book! It gives you great ideas on how to container garden, use raised beds, make compost, make hotbeds and how to can your harvest to last through the winter..it is exciting and motivating to read this and know that it really can be done in your own space, even an apartment can grow veggies with a patio. There are also guides on how to raise and care for a few farm animals. Did you know you could cut an X in the top of a bag of compost and grow a few tomato plants? I can't wait to get started!

Enjoy fresher, organic, better-tasting food all the time. The solution is as close as your own backyard. Grow the vegetables and fruits your family loves; keep bees; raise chickens, goats, or even a cow. The Backyard Homestead shows you how it's done. And when the harvest is in, you'll learn how to cook, preserve, cure, brew, or pickle the fruits of your labor.

From a quarter of an acre, you can harvest 1,400 eggs, 50 pounds of wheat, 60 pounds of fruit, 2,000 pounds of vegetables, 280 pounds of pork, 75 pounds of nuts.
