Hang on! If you've had an inkling that things in American politics were not quite as they seem, this is the book for you. We don't like bad news, of course, so be warned that there is plenty of bad news in Russ Baker's excellent book. Document and news media research along with interviews conducted over the years provide support for details presented. Some people may say it's a stretch, except that everything fits into a pattern established early in the 20th Century. Every war after WW II can be linked to long-range, and some short-range planning by a coalition of intelligence and military interests working with those corporations who made billions of dollars from the conflicts. My response to the information, based on my reading of two others books -- JFK and the Speakable and The Psychopath Test -- is that there is an obsessive-compulsive and pathological drive by the family, and others, to maintain status, power and wealth that extends to doing whatever is necessary to meet their goals regardless of the hurt, the pain, or the loss of life, health and income that is inflicted on millions of people not lucky enough to be in the family. There is a mafia-like element in the family's behavior, the current scam being like a protection racket. It's a big book, over 600 pages, and I was persistently drawn to keep reading. We're faced with a serious problem. We need to do something about it. The first step is for everyone to read this book!

This is just the tip of the iceberg of what's going on behind the scenes in our government. Inspires a person to help clean the mess up with some competent elected politicians.

"Synopsis" by , After eight disastrous years, George W. Bush leaves office as one of the most unpopular presidents in American history. Baker goes deep behind the scenes to deliver an arresting new look at the Bush legacy, and the network of figures in intelligence, military, finance, and oil who enabled the Bush family's rise to power.
"Synopsis" by ,
“Shocking in its disclosures, elegantly crafted, and faultlessly measured in its judgments.”—Roger Morris, author of Richard Milhous Nixon and Partners in Power

How did the deeply flawed George W. Bush ascend to the highest office in the nation, what forces abetted his rise, and—perhaps most important—have those forces really been vanquished by Obamas election? Award-winning investigative journalist Russ Baker gives us the answers in Family of Secrets, a compelling and startling new take on the Bush dynasty and the shadowy elite that has quietly steered the American republic for the past half century and more. Baker shows how this network of figures in intelligence, the military, oil, and finance enabled—and in turn benefited handsomely from—the Bushes perch at the highest levels of government. As Baker reveals, this deeply entrenched elite remains in power regardless of who sits in the Oval Office.

Family of Secrets offers countless disclosures that challenge the conventional accounts of such central events as the JFK assassination and Watergate. It includes an inside account of George W.s cynical religious conversion and the untold real background to the disastrous response to Hurricane Katrina. Bakers narrative is gripping, sobering, and deeply sourced. It will change the way we understand not just the Bush years, but a half century of postwar history—and the present.
