Publisher Comments:

All Cats Have Asperger Syndrome takes a playful look at Asperger Syndrome (AS), drawing inspiration from the feline world in a way that will strike a chord with all those who are familiar with AS. Delightful color photographs bring to life the familiar characteristics of independent cats such as sensitive hearing, scampering at the first sign of being stroked, and particular eating habits. Touching, humorous and insightful, this book evokes the difficulties and joys of raising a child who is different and leaves the reader with a sense of the dignity, individuality, and potential of people with AS. This engaging book is an ideal, gentle introduction to the world of AS.

A cute, destimatizing picture book comparing people with Asperger's Syndrome to cats. Because there are many behavioral parallels, and because kittens pull our heartstrings with neoteny, the comparison makes people with AS less frightening and more engaging for people otherwise unfamiliar with the syndrome. I'm not sure who the intended audience is, but I could see it being an effective book for an elementary classroom with a child with AS, or for family members or other people who don't know how to approach someone with AS.

I have two sons with Asperger's syndrome. They are both well-liked but my oldest, especially, is trying hard to learn social skills.

Last year, I brought this book to his fourth-grade classroom (with his permission) and read it to the class. We followed that with a Q&A session with both of us that enlightened everyone (including me!). The class was finally able to understand why the smartest kid in the class was also in special ED, and really helped to explain some of his quirky behavior.

I left the book at school for about a month, and during that time all of the kids read it at least once, many of them several times.

This year, the entire fifth grade understands why he's so different, (he would call himself a geek). They are kind, friendly, and look out for him in amazing ways. I feel his success as he moves along the educational chain is going to be a better experience because of this one, small, book.

Imagine a topic that affects millions, was discovered in 1940,but about which no books appeared in the US untill recently.
After buying this book,I got 15 more on Autism or Aspergers.THere is no other subject which has forced me to so completely rethink what I though I understood. If you suspect someone near and dear has this symptom, this book is the perfect way to gently introduce the topic.
