Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Matthew Porter's Count the Birdies is a beautifully designed and crafted board book that not only helps children learn to count, but to recognize colors as well. Based on Japanese woodcuts, Porter's lovely illustrations picture house sparrows perched on white pear blossoms, tiny hummingbirds flitting among pink cherry blossoms, and other common birds and flowers.

Refreshingly modern, yet imbued with vintage charm, the vibrant, elegant illustrations capture the attention of both young readers and their parents.

Review:

"Counting never looked this pretty — especially with Matthew Porter's timeless illustrations of house sparrows, hummingbirds, and other common birds and flowers for his second children's book. His work follows the tradition of Japanese woodcuts, but with a modern twist." Where Magazine

Review:

"Acrylic illustrations inspired by Japanese woodcuts give this board book the vintage charm of well-worn alphabet blocks. Spot the sparrows and hummingbirds, or tally the white pear petals and pink cherry blossoms." Canadian Family
