Publisher Comments:

Miss Suzy is a little gray squirrel who lives happily in her oak-tree home until she is chased away by some mean red squirrels. Poor Miss Suzy is very sad. But soon she finds a beautiful dollhouse and meets a band of brave toy soldiers. How Miss Suzy and the soldiers help each other makes a gentle, old-fashioned tale that will capture the imagination of girls and boys alike. Enchanting illustrations by Caldecott Medal winner Arnold Lobel are sure to make the kind squirrel and the gallant soldiers the everlasting friends of all who turn the pages.

I ordered the original 'Miss Suzy' from a children's book club before my 31 yr. old son was born. It has remained a favorite of his and I would like to order one for his new baby daughter. I am thrilled to see it. This book has been read so much, it is falling apart!

My daughters and I wore the storybook of Miss Suzy out reading it in their childhood. Taped and torn it was saved as one of their favorites to be passed down to their children. This last weekend, my 3 year-old grand-daughter and I had the most satisfying drive, her sitting in her car seat in the back of the car and I in the front. It had been a long time since I had read the book, in the past committed to memory, but we managed even though I could not see the pages. As she turned the pages she described the pictures jogging my memory of the words on the page. I was tickled at her descriptive ability and her total absorption in the sequence of the story. Every page brought out her empathy and when asked which was her favorite picture it was the last of Miss Suzy finally safely back in her bed in the Tip-Tip-Top of the Tall Oak Tree. "Of course!",I exclaimed. We experienced the most engaging interlude to the end of a perfect day together. Thank you, Miriam Young!

I read this book so much to my four children, that I think I memorized it. It is a lovely story. They never tired of it. We lost the book somewhere along the way, and are thankful it was given a 40th Anniversary Edition! YEAAAAA!
