This is a fun and friendly cookbook. When I cook, I like to consult a range of cookbooks to get a variety of ideas and then improvise. I usually consult 'The Gourmet Cookbook', Mark Bittman's 'How to Cook Everything' and Julia Child's 'The Way to Cook', and this cookbook will be joining that impressive group. Since I read cookbooks and cooking magazines for fun, a lot of the recipes in this cookbook are not new to me, but the recipes that are new to me are extremely valuable. For example, I was looking for desserts I could make without eggs, and found a delicious-sounding applesauce cake. There are also new takes on old standards, such as Beef Stifado, a Greek version of beef stew that includes feta cheese and walnuts. I am trying to incorporate a larger variety of fruit and vegetable recipes into my repertoire, so I was pleased to find recipes like New Hampshire Fried Apples, Stuffed Bell Peppers and Tex-Mex Vegetable Casserole. The layout is easy to read, and the instructions are thoughtful and detailed, for example specifying a 'shallow roasting pan' where other cookbooks might just say 'roasting pan'. This book is excellent for beginning cooks, but has enough new ideas that more experienced cooks will not be bored. I am very happy to be adding this cookbook to my collection!

The most amazing and comprehensive cookbook I own.
Name a recipe, and it's in this book....and it's great. The best reference cookbook ever!...really!
(and the easiest to read)
Nearly each recipe is prefaced with an interesting notation about the recipe....great information.
Buy it!
