I purchased a Kobo Mini from Powell's after passing my NOOK Simple Touch on to a family member. My plan was to use the mini until the long-promised release of B&N's new eInk reader in late 2013. After using the Mini for a few months, and after looking at the new NOOK GlowLight, I've decided that the Mini does everything I need.

The biggest surprise was that the Mini actually has more available storage for sideloaded books (books not purchased from the device manufacturer). The Mini doesn't have as sharp a screen, nor does it have the nice glowing screen for night time reading, but until something really compelling comes along, it's perfect for my beach-side reader.

From initial power on to reading the first page of a book is 22 seconds, quick enough. Page turns are a fraction of a second. I am not experiencing any problems. Kobo's font tweaking options allow me to get the exact appearance I want. So long as the small screen doesn't bother you, I'd recommend the Kobo Mini.

The Kobo Mini is my first experience with an e-reader, as I wanted to see whether I'd like one without paying hundreds of dollars for a fancy tablet or e-reader. Thus far, I love it! It's compact enough to slip in my purse or pocket, the battery lasts forever, and the interface is easy to use. I was curious to see whether I'd get impatient with having to "turn the page" so much more often than I would with a regular book (I'm a fast reader), but I haven't minded it so far. While in the future I might consider upgrading to one of Kobo's fancier products, at the moment, the Mini is exactly what I need.
