Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

In the novel, Siddhartha, a young man, leaves his family for a contemplative life, then, restless, discards it for one of the flesh. He conceives a son, but bored and sickened by lust and greed, moves on again. Near despair, Siddhartha comes to a river where he hears a unique sound. This sound signals the true beginning of his life — the beginning of suffering, rejection, peace, and, finally, wisdom.

Synopsis:

A young Indian mystic, a contemporary of Buddha, sacrifices everything to search for the true meaning of life.

The beautiful story of the mental and physical journey of a young traveler who denies even the most ascetic of dogma, listening only to nature and within, Hesse covers the traveler's entire journey from beginning to end by articulating the most intimate experiences with incredible ease. A must-read book for any 20-something looking for spiritual or mental peace of mind, and can be read in a single sitting, reading, or meditation.
