Jesse Bullington: IMG Abash'd the Devil Stood

I don't believe in evil. It's a word I use, certainly, because words are shortcuts and we all take the short way round from time to time, but that's... Continue »

This book is about a girl named Mercy who is a skinwalker, someone who is able to change into a coyote at will. When her werewolf neighbor's daughter is kidnapped she helps his werewolf pack try to find the kidnappers.

I found this book dull and slow with dreadful pacing. The writing felt awkward and rough and the characters were flat. Every now and then there was something clever or interesting but most of this book was totally boring. I will not be reading the rest of this series.

Being my first Patricia Briggs experience, I took the store employee's word that it would be good. I was not disappointed.

I was hooked before I'd finished five pages: a VW mechanic named Mercedes? Werewolves, vampires, fae, and a Walker who doesn't know much about her own kind? How could I not be intrigued?

Ms. Brigg's masterful use of language made Mercy's world real to me. I picked up the next two in the series before I finished the first!

I loved the idea of Mercy being a walker. I had never seen one in a story I have read before. I did have a small problem with the way she kept acting like she was still trying to learn about herself and others of the supernatural. She would second guess herself alot and the whole Adam and Samual love feud got on my nerves when anyone could tell she liked Adam more then Samual after what he did to her. But I did love that she has friends in all corners of the supernatural. She is friends with Stefan an elder vampire, Zee probaliy the oldest gremlin in the book that has knowlage of old magic, Uncle Mike with his safe bar to go to, Bran the Marrok as a father figure, Tony the human undercover cop, Adam the Alpha of the Tri-City pack with his little hellyan of a daughter Jessei, and last but not lest her faithful friend and all time roommate Media the cat. I have read Moon Called and Blood Bound and can't wait to read the other two in the series.
