statesman; and the influence and aftermath of his statesman. Among
specific topics are Plutarch and Pausanias at Delphi, classical and
contemporary statesmen in Praecepta, Plutarch on the statesman's
independence of action, poetry and music in the life of his
statesmen, the divinity of rulers and laws, the dreaming Kronos as
world archon in De facie in orbe lunae, Plutarch and Apuleius, the
first printing of the Lives in 1517, and Plutarchian biography in
18th- century England. The second volume contains papers on
Plutarch's Greek and Roman lives.
