Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

In this multiple parallel universes of the Twelve Related Worlds, only an enchanter with nine lives is powerful enough to control the rampant misuse of magic--and to hold the title Chrestomanci...

The Chants are a family strong in magic, but neither Christopher Chant nor Cat Chant can work even the simplest of spells. Who could have dreamed that both Christopher and Cat were born with nine lives--or that they could lose them so quickly?

Review:

"The concept is ingenious." Horn Book

Review:

"[The Lives of Christopher Chant is] wonderfully entertaining. A born storyteller weaves her own brand of magic." Horn Book (starred review)

Review:

"[In The Lives of Christopher Chant] Jones has written a mesmerizing account of the boyhood adventure of the famous magician who starred in Charmed Life. Her ability to mesh magic and realism results in an enthralling story about a boy just discovering his powers." Publishers Weekly

Review:

"The Lives of Christopher Chant is fun and exciting." VOYA

Review:

"A rich cast of characters is assembled, from this world and others. Jones writes of magic with such absolute conviction that there is no room for doubt." School Library Journal

Growimg up magical is not easy, and Cat and Christopher sure know! This book is hilariusly funny, and full of adventures.By the end of the books, you almost wish YOU were a 9-lifed enchanter! Well, almost...

I totally loved this! Jones skillfully creates a believable magical world. She also manages to write completely believable child protagonists. Cat and Christopher, though they are often ignorant as to the intricacies of the world around them, never come off as stupid, just as kids, and they're not overly precocious, either. The books are an excellent mix of humor and adventure, and I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
