This showed the history of the United States, particularly the issue of orphans that opened the eyes of the Americans of the true state of orphans in orphanages during that time. It led to reforms that the late author pursued to change it or even helped these kids to adoption.
I love the story with sense of humor as well as mixing it with love and drama.
By the way the novel's already 10 years and 4 months old.
