Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

"A smart and wonderfully throwback adventure. Philip Pullman fans take notice. Don't miss."

—Matthew Quick, New York Times Bestselling author of The Silver Linings Playbook and Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock.

Nowhere to escape but below.

Panic grips sixteen-year-old Mia Kishs boarding school, Westbrook Academy, when a mysterious quarantine is suddenly enforced by a small army of soldiers who shoot first and ask questions later. The quarantine makes no sense—but then students and faculty inexplicably begin to break down. Their illness is an aggressive virus that ages its victims years in only a matter of hours. The end result? Death.

No one can explain whats going or has any idea what to do. Except Mia.

Because she knows something that no one else does. And she knows the only place to escape to get answers...But what she finds may be even more horrific than anything that came before.

* “The contemporary implications of the story ring unnervingly true. A fast-paced, thrilling adventure story that begs for a sequel.”—Booklist, starred review

"Seth Fishman kills it in every possible way."

—Margaret Stohl, New York Times Bestselling co-author of Beautiful Creatures and Icons.

"A crackling thriller that keeps you turning the pages until the very end."

—Jennifer Smith, author of The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight.

Synopsis:

The sequel to No Safety in Numbers; a modern day Lord of the Flies for fans of apocalyptic thrillers

It's Day 7 in the quarantined mall. The riot is over and the senator trapped inside is determined to end the chaos. Even with new rules, assigned jobs, and heightened security, she still needs to get the teen population under control. So she enlists Marco's help--allowing him to keep his stolen universal card key in exchange for spying on the very football players who are protecting him.

But someone is working against the new systems, targeting the teens, and putting the entire mall in even more danger. Lexi, Marco, Ryan, and Shay believe their new alliances are sound.

They are wrong. Who can be trusted? And who will be left to trust?

The virus was just the beginning.

No Easy Way Out is compelling and terrifying. It is not a sequel, but a continuation and escalation of the fear and chaos from No Safety In Numbers. No Easy Way Out picks up just two hours after No Safety In Numbers ended. It appears that the thousands of shoppers quarantined inside the giant mall have calmed down and are cooperating with the new rules and new rules enforcers. Appearances can be deceiving. The trouble makers and rebels have found ways to stay out of sight and are content to operate in secret. Things might have gone on uneventfully, but Marco and Lexi uncover some dire secrets and make the mistake of telling others. Paranoia and vengeance take over and violence erupts. Readers need to be prepared for bloody fights, senseless killing and characters who started out as good guys turning into monsters. Oh, and the virus is still killing people, too. Readers can understand how the mall detainees feel abandoned and abused. They, and the reader, know that the government may have no intention of saving them. Book 3 will end the story, but readers will remember this series for a long, long time.
