Book News Annotation:

Developed around the themes of ocular drug metabolism, the ocular pathophysiological effects of nitric oxide, and government issues relating to the use of alternative methods for toxicity testing. A workshop also compared in-vitro with in-vivo models and different animal models. Among the 24 specific topics are the role in inflammation of cytochrome P450 and arachidonic acid metabolism in the corneal epithelium, a possible explanation and preventive measures for corneal damage following continuous infusion in rats, a preliminary report on the barotoxic effects on morphology and the viability of trabecular cells, the experimental implantation of devices for electrical retinal stimulation in rabbits, and characterizing immortalized lens epithelial cells as a potential in-vitro alternative model for the cellular toxicity and the efficacy evaluations of ocular drug candidates.
