Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Rational judgment, soothing behavior, and calm observation often go out the window when responding to stress. This book presents hypnotherapeutic skills (including breathing exercises) and other easy-to-learn techniques that help people maintain healthy responses to stress and facilitate effective clinical work and a happier life.

Book News Annotation:

Daitch, a psychologist (Center for the Treatment of Anxiety Disorders, Farmington Hills, Michigan), offers a guide to treating patients who have trouble with affect regulation by using hypnosis to teach them how to regulate and control their excessive emotions. Introductory chapters deal with the impact of over-reactivity, basic biological psychology, how the tools complement other therapies, and how to implement them. About 30 specific skills are outlined, organized into tiers that deal with the fundamentals, calming, healing, and rehearsal and transfer. Application of the tools in clinical practice when working with common and severe anxiety disorders, couples and other interpersonal relationships are detailed. The book is intended for psychotherapists with little or no training in hypnosis, clinicians in training, and experienced hypnotherapists.
