Publisher Comments:

One of our final two Dear Americas, this is the compelling diary of a young girl who finds herself caught up in the turmoil and drama of the Salem Witch Trials.

Deliverance Trembley lives in Salem Village, where she must take care of her sickly sister, Mem, and where she does her daily chores in fear of her cruel uncle's angry temper. But when four young girls from the village accuse some of the local women of being witches, Deliverance finds herself caught up in the ensuing drama of the trials. And life in Salem is never the same.

This is the first middlegrade, I've read in a long time. When I was a child, I use to read this series all the time, I found that there were a lot more, so I figured I'd finish off my set and pass it along to my cousin who is the right age for the books.

This series is amazing. It really helps kids to learn and like history. I have always been interested in the witch trials and when I saw this book, I figured I'd give it a try. I really liked Deliverance's character.

The author captured the time, very well I thought, I do wish we would have seen more of Bridget, and some of the other accused. I also wish that the book would not have ended in April of 1692, I really would have liked to see how the author would have handled the hangings that Deliverance should have seen.

One great thing about this series, is in the back, they have a historical note telling the reader what life was like at that time in the USA. They have pictures that accompany the historical facts.

Aside from that, it was a good read and I would recommend it to younger kids, 8 to 14 ish, and older if you enjoy middle grade books and historical fiction.
