The explosive finale to Marie Lus New York Times bestselling LEGEND trilogy—perfect for fans of THE HUNGER GAMES and DIVERGENT!

He is a Legend.

She is a Prodigy.

Who will be Champion?

June and Day have sacrificed so much for the people of the Republic—and each other—and now their country is on the brink of a new existence. June is back in the good graces of the Republic, working within the governments elite circles as Princeps Elect while Day has been assigned a high level military position. But neither could have predicted the circumstances that will reunite them once again. Just when a peace treaty is imminent, a plague outbreak causes panic in the Colonies, and war threatens the Republics border cities. This new strain of plague is deadlier than ever, and June is the only one who knows the key to her countrys defense. But saving the lives of thousands will mean asking the one she loves to give up everything he has. With heart-pounding action and suspense, Marie Lus bestselling trilogy draws to a stunning conclusion.

Review:

"All her life, Cassia has never had a choice. The Society dictates everything: when and how to play, where to work, where to live, what to eat and wear, when to die, and most importantly to Cassia as she turns 17, who to marry. When she is Matched with her best friend Xander, things couldn't be more perfect. But why did her neighbor Ky's face show up on her match disk as well? She's told it was an error, but something once noticed clamors for attention, and now Cassia can't look away. Ky has many secrets, but the most stunning to Cassia is something she never suspected still existed: creativity. As they fall in love, Cassia's eyes are opened to the truth of the Society, and she knows she can no longer blindly follow its dictates. But the Society isn't through with them, and things get much, much uglier. Condie's enthralling and twisty dystopian plot is well served by her intriguing characters and fine writing. While the ending is unresolved (the book is first in a trilogy), Cassia's metamorphosis is gripping and satisfying. Ages 14 — up. (Nov.)" Publishers Weekly (Starred Review) (Copyright PWyxz LLC)

Synopsis:

A death-defying tropical adventure delivers a frightening message about dabbling with creation from the talented author of Origin

On a remote island in the Pacific, Corpus scientists have taken test tube embryos and given them life. These beings—the Vitros—have knowledge and abilities most humans can only dream of. But they also have one enormous flaw.

Sophie Crue is determined to get to Skin Island and find her mother, a scientist who left Sophie behind years ago. She enlists hunky charter pilot Jim Julien to take her there. But once on the island, Sophie and Jim encounter more than they bargained for, including a charming, brilliant Vitro named Nicholas and an innocent, newly awoken one named Lux.

In a race for their lives, Sophie and Jim are about to discover what happens when science stretches too far beyond its reach.

Great read. Interesting story line. A lot of action and makes you think what would happen if you took the other road.

I really enjoyed the first book in the Crossed series. Matched was the perfect science fiction meets forbidden love story. The characters are real and relatable and the concepts behind the society Cassia lives in are fascinating. If you loved Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, you'll love this new series!

Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate . . . until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black. The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow. I was so excited to read this novel, the beautiful cover the buzz it got before publication, for me, the book was just okay. It should be said that I am not the biggest fan of dystopian novels.
The writing was good, the character development and the dialog was good, but for me Cassia the main girl, I found to be not very likable. I found her to be selfish and kind of boring. I did like Xander I found him to be very interesting and I really wish there would have been more of him. I wish it was told from his point of view not Cassia’s.
I do hope the second book in this series is better, I do plan on reading it, maybe it will change my mind. Again dystopian novels are not my favorite things to read.
I really wish we knew more about the Society. We don’t know much about them, we have no idea who they are or possibly what they are. I wanted to know more about them and more about the Officials. I think if I had more information about them, I could have enjoyed the novel more.
