Publisher Comments:

Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has survived the Hunger Games twice. But now that she's made it out of the bloody arena alive, she's still not safe. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge. Who do they think should pay for the unrest? Katniss. And what's worse, President Snow has made it clear that no one else is safe either. Not Katniss's family, not her friends, not the people of District 12.

Powerful and haunting, this thrilling final installment of Suzanne Collins's groundbreaking The Hunger Games trilogy promises to be one of the most talked about books of the year.

Synopsis:

The third and final chapter of the phenomenal #1 New York Times bestselling Hunger Games trilogy is coming out August 24, 2010.

I'm stunned by the number of positive reviews listed here. While "The Hunger Games" is probably the best young adult book I've ever read, and the follow-up "Catching Fire" is equally amazing, what Suzanne Collins does to her final book in the series is tragic. I haven't been so disappointed in a series since George R. R. Martin destroyed the Song of Fire and Ice series with "A Feast For Crows." The protagonist (Katniss) transforms from an inspirational, dedicated warrior to a sniveling crybaby, perpetually discovering the happenings of the outside world courtesy of spoon feeding from a number of characters I've intentionally forgotten. The comic relief/light romance of her relationship with Peeta is destroyed in favor of fostering heavy-handed anti-war propaganda that's downright boring. Like a lot of readers, I've chosen to pretend the final book in these series doesn't exist, and I've warned folks who fell in love with the first two books that number three might feel like a harsh let down. Perhaps Suzanne Collins was rushed to finish, in order to capitalize on the growing word-of-mouth success of "The Hunger Games." Either way, this is an unfortunate ending to an otherwise awesome series.

From the time Katniss Everdeen steps up and takes her sister's place as a Tribute in "The Hunger Games,"we have waited for this moment. The moment when she will be expected to rise above her personal issues and work for the public good.

Her supporting cast include characters from the previous two books in the trilogy as well as new equally forceful ones.

The ever present question as to whether Katniss' beau is Gale or Peeta, continues throughout this book too, and Collins manages to keep her readers enthralled right till the end.

If you haven't read the first two books in the trilogy do red them first, and if you have, what are you waiting for/!

Mockingjay is the final installment of The Hunger Games, a thrilling trilogy in which a young girl, Katniss Everdeen, comes of age in a terrifying future world. In dystopian Panem, the masses live in bleak, impoverished districts, supplying and in subjugation to the Capitol, a corrupt city wherein all advanced technology, leisure and luxury are concentrated and confined. The Capitol rules through fear, and the Hunger Games are a chilling exercise in terror -- a spectacle of violence through technology -- both in the construction of the games, and the use of media to turn the games into entertainment. In Mockingjay, the people challenge the Capitol's power using technology to level the battle field: using the master's signal, as it were, to dismantle the master's programming. At the symbolic center of the struggle, Katniss is ambivalent, reluctant, brave and fierce. I will miss her!
