Synopses & Reviews
Itand#8217;s wintertime at Greenglass House. The creaky smugglerand#8217;s inn is always quiet during this season, and twelve-year-old Milo, the innkeepersand#8217; adopted son, plans to spend his holidays relaxing. But on the first icy night of vacation, out of nowhere, the guest bell rings. Then rings again. And again. Soon Miloand#8217;s home is bursting with odd, secretive guests, each one bearing a strange story that is somehow connected to the rambling old house. As objects go missing and tempers flare, Milo and Meddy, the cookand#8217;s daughter, must decipher clues and untangle the web of deepening mysteries to discover the truth about Greenglass Houseand#8212;and themselves.
The next riveting adventure in the Theodosia Throckmorton series!
A rambling old inn, a strange map, an attic packed with treasures, squabbling guests, theft, friendship, and an unusual haunting mark this smartand#160;middle gradeand#160;mystery in the tradition of the Mysterious Benedict Society books and The Westing Game.
Being able to detect black magic isnandrsquo;t all tea and crumpetsandmdash;and for Theodosia Throckmorton, it can be a decidedly tricky business! When Sticky Will drags Theo to a magic show featuring the Great Awi Bubu, she quickly senses there is more to the magician than he lets on, setting in motion a chain of events she never could have bargained for.
Meanwhile, back at the Museum of Legends and Antiquities, Henry is home for the spring holidays and makes an accidental discovery of an artifact that alchemists have been hunting for centuries. Soon, every black-cloaked occultist in London is trying to get their hands on it . . .
About the Author
R. L. LaFEVERSand#160;grew up in Los Angeles, California surrounded by a gaggle of brothers who taught her an awful lot about how to get into mischief of all kinds, much like our clever Theodosia Throckmorton. When getting her brothers out of scrapes (again, like Theo), she usually had her nose buried in a book.
Now she lives on a small ranch in Southern California with her husband, two teenaged sons (who are also very good at getting into mischief and scrapes of one sort or another), a dog who thinks heand#8217;s a person, and a cat who is really a tigress in disguise.
