After many years, I finally got a chance to sit down and read this story. The most interesting aspect of the story line for me was trying to imagine how deeply shocking such an event would be to people whose paradigm shift would have been so overwhelming. At the same time, I found some of the social behavior in the story comparable to current events against a backdrop of world politics, US political campaign rhetoric and the public perception of them, and the war conflicts and atrocities being committed around the world. We don't seem to be evolving...
