This book features the tale of a caterpillar 'just born' who sets off to see the world and to make friends. Along the way he meets card playing monkeys, tennis playing rabbits and miniature golf playing mice who tell him he is too ugly to play with. After becoming a beautiful butterfly, Charlie meets these animals again who now beg him to play with them beecause he is so beautiful. Charlie later meets another caterpillar who is crying because she has no friends. Not to have happen to her, what had happen to him, Charlie befriends her and does with her all the things the other animals said that he was too ugly to do while Charlie was a caterpillar. This book is presented in an easy to read format with repeating phrases that young children may recognize, chime in and 'read' with you from page to page. Enjoy and discuss Charlie the Caterpillar with the preschooler in your life.
