Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Dubbed “the American Tolkien” by Time magazine, #1 New York Times bestselling author George R. R. Martin is a giant in the field of fantasy literature and one of the most exciting storytellers of our time. Now he delivers a rare treat for readers: a compendium of his shorter works, collected into two stunning volumes, that offers fascinating insight into his journey from young writer to award-winning master.

Gathered here in Volume I are the very best of George R. R. Martins early works, including never-before-published fan pieces, his Hugo, Nebula, and Bram Stoker awards—winning stories-plus the original novella The Ice Dragon, from which Martins New York Times bestselling childrens book of the same title originated. A dazzling array that features extensive author commentary, Dreamsongs, Volume I, is the perfect collection for both Martin devotees and a new generation of fans.

Synopsis:

Featuring extensive author commentary, the first volume in the George R.R. Martin three-volume set brings together the best of his shorter fiction, showing his evolution as a writer from his early, unpublished fan stories to his most-famous works. Abridged. 16 CDs.

About the Author

George R.R. Martin sold his first story in 1971 and has been writing professionally since then. He spent ten years in Hollywood as a writer-producer, working on The Twilight Zone, Beauty and the Beast, and various feature films and television pilots that were never made. In the mid '90s he returned to prose, his first love, and began work on his epic fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire. He has been in the Seven Kingdoms ever since. Whenever he's allowed to leave, he returns to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he lives with the lovely Parris, a big white dog called Mischa, and two cats named Augustus and Caligula, who think they run the place.
