Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Set in a world of extraordinary circumstances, filled with stunning visual imagery and unforgettable characters, the Dark Tower series is unlike anything you have ever read. Here is the penultimate installment.

Review:

"[B]racingly strong as it veers toward its Armageddon-like conclusion....The sixth installment of this magnum opus stops short with the biggest cliffhanger of King's career." Publishers Weekly (Starred Review)

Review:

"King's epical Dark Tower hastens to a close, and its penultimate volume is one of the speediest....[He] keeps us on tenterhooks throughout — and leaves us there." Booklist

Review:

"[T]his penultimate volume winds its way nimbly through the time-space continuum....King has his readers where he wants them: breathlessly waiting for more." Library Journal

Review:

"Hauntingly surreal and almost supernaturally enthralling, King's Dark Tower saga is a monumental work of fantastical fiction created by a master wordslinger." Paul Goat Allen, BookPage.com

Review:

"[A]lmost works as a stand-alone novel, and is highly recommended for readers who enjoy the more metafictional side of King's oeuvre....Song of Susannah is by far the best of the sequence so far." Matt Thorne, The Independent (U.K.)

Review:

"Self-deprecating, scatological, at times wickedly funny, as familiar with Godzilla movies and the guy behind the Wizard of Oz as he is with the sagas of gods, King turns a potential recipe for literary meltdown into what just might be a masterpiece." Faren Miller, Locus

Review:

"[A] hypnotic blend of suspense and sentimentality...sprawling, eventful tale of demons, monsters, narrow escapes, and magic portals." New York Times Book Review

Review:

"One gets the feeling that this colossal story means a lot to King, that he's telling it because he has to....He's giving The Dark Tower everything he's got." San Francisco Chronicle

Review:

"When they call the roll of the great figures of modern American literature — Bellow, Miller, Morrison, Updike, Roth — they can now add a name: Stephen King." The New York Times

Synopsis:

This is the sixth volume of the seven-book Dark Tower series, a mix of horror, SF, and dark fantasy that ties together several of Stephen King's novels, including The Stand and 'Salem's Lot. Father Callahan, Jake, and Oy are searching for Susannah Dean, who is essential to their quest to find and preserve the Dark Tower. Susannah is trapped in 1999 New York, possessed by the demon-mother Mia, who is using Susannah's body to bring forth her child. The baby is also the gunslinger Roland's child — and Roland's future nemesis. Meanwhile, Eddie Dean and Roland travel to 1977 Maine, where they encounter a famous horror-book writer...

Synopsis:

The next-to-last novel in Stephen King's seven-volume magnum opus, Song of Susannah is a fascinating key to the unfolding mystery of the Dark Tower — now available in trade paperback, traditionally the strongest selling format for this series.
