Review:

"Bestseller Fluke's fabulous 14th foodie mystery (after 2010's Apple Turnover Murder) finds Hannah Swenson, the baking whiz of the Cookie Jar in Lake Eden, Minn., still torn between the two less than perfect men in her life — dentist Norman Rhodes, whose attractive former fiancée and fellow dentist, Bev Thorndike, has just joined Norman's practice, and Mike Kingston, Winnetka County's chief detective, who has a roving eye. When someone shoots visiting Lutheran minister Matthew Walters, who's covering Rev. Bob Knudsen's duties at Holy Redeemer while Bob is on a belated honeymoon cruise, the only witness to the murder is Jacob, a mynah bird, who squawks, 'The wages of sin is death.' Unlike your typical boyfriend cop, Mike is thrilled to have Hannah tracking down clues. Between eating and baking, Hannah and cronies investigate Matthew's background, especially his relationship to his creepy, paroled convict cousin, Paul. Mouthwatering recipes include butterscotch bonanza bars and pineapple casserole. (Mar.)" Publishers Weekly (Copyright PWyxz LLC)

Joanne Fluke has again written not only a cozy mystery, but a very delicious recipe book. The recipes are great. However, the mystery with Hannah Swensen as Lake Eden's favorite baker and cookie shop owner is the real jewel. Hannah definitely has her hands full with her cat, family, and the two men in her life. When there is a murder, and obviously Lake Eden is one of the murder capitols of Minnesota, Hannah is right there to help solve it. This time when the minister Bob's friend Matthew comes to fill in for Bob while he goes on his honeymoon, Matthew is murdered. Hannah feels responsible since he was eating a piece of cake she made when the deed was done. This time there is a witness, a mynah bird named Jacob. Hannah really has her hands full solving the murder, baking cookies, and keeping up with the two men in her life, Norman and Mike. There does seem to be a speed bump in her road to romance, since Bev, a former classmate of Norman's has joined his practice. I always love these books.
