This book is a revelation. What a spectacular surprise. I happened upon this novel completely by chance and couldn't leave the store without it. It drew me in immediately. The story centers around a deeply troubled sixteen-year-old girl who wants nothing more than to escape the torment of her past and present. Scarred in both body and soul, she finds solace in a kind older man with troubles of his own. This story is gritty and unflinching and tautly suspenseful in the most wonderful way--the tension builds masterfully throughout the book and is carried through to the final word. I could not put this book down and had to force myself to stop reading and save some for later, because I never wanted it to end. And when I reached the end, I turned it over and started reading it again. If that isn't a recommendation, I don't know what is!
