Publisher Comments:

More than Petticoats: Remarkable Wisconsin Women tells the stories of twelve strong and determined women, all of whom broke through social, cultural, and political barriers to achieve greatness. Through their passions for medicine, science, law, literature, arts, politics, and civil rights, these pioneers made contributions to society that still have an impact today.
Meet Margarethe Meyer Schurz, a German heiress who brought the concept of kindergarten to America; Golda Meir, a Milwaukee girl who became prime minister of Israel; Dr. Lillie Rosa Minoka-Hill, who introduced a combination of modern and traditional Native-American remedies to reservations; and Mildred Fish-Harnock, a teacher who became a spy to help defeat Hitler’s Third Reich.
Each of these women embodied a remarkable determination and an independent spirit that is as inspiring now as it was then. Read about their exciting lives in this collection of brief and absorbing biographies.
