Publisher Comments:

Come and explore the Civil War! Here is an entirely new kind of dictionary — one that is packed with superb, full-color photographs, plus thousands of terms and historical facts from the Civil War. The Visual Dictionary of the Civil War gives you instant access to the specialized vocabulary of historians and Civil War buffs in a way that is clear, informative, and easy to understand. It looks at the weaponry, uniforms, everyday life, personal dramas, and historical realities of the Union and the Confederacy. Learn about the infantry, artillery, and cavalry, the famous men who made their mark, and the everyday heroes who fought and died for what they believed. If you know what a particular uniform or rifle or cannon looks like but don't know its name, simply look at the labels around the illustrations. And it you know a term but don't know exactly what it refers to, the comprehensive index directs you to the illustrations that show you just what you are looking for.
