Although this book doesn't use a plethora of captivating language, he uses just enough to set the setting in your mind of the concentration camp and the people suffering inside. The main irony of this book is that Elie survived as a human, but lost his humanity. He gave up on G-d and continued throughout the book asking where he was. On Yom Kippur, he did, however, pray to G-d. Why was he doing this and why must we suffer were some of the usual ones being asked. But without his father, Elie would have never survived. His father was the only reason that he is still alive to tell his story. This book captivated me and I could almost feel the suffering and torture everytime I turned the page.
