One of the finest novelists ever to hail from Appalachia. This West Virginia author reveals more about the heritage and culture of her region in the modern era than any currently living writer.

This book was great. It really lets you experience the horror that miners had to go through to get basic rights. I couldn't believe this could happen in the united states not even 100 years ago. I found this book as moving and impacting as Night by Elie Wiesel and The Diary of Ann Frank.
