Book News Annotation:
Facing pages of facsimiles and transcriptions of the 230-page notebook that Shelley first used in England in 1817-18 to translate several of the Homeric Hymns, and then over the next several years to draft short personal lyrics and difficult passages for such longer public poems as Prometheus Unbound, The Sensitive Plant, The Mask of Anarchy, and Epipsychidion. Footnotes describe the color of the ink, condition of the paper, and other features not readily apparent. Scholarly apparatus describe beta-radiographs of the watermarks and the construction and condition of the volume, and comment more extensive on the text than do the footnotes. No index.
