I first read this book as a teen in the late '70s. It was "weird" especially to read the tales and news accounts of the actions of the mentally ill. Now, 25+ years later, as a worker in the field of mental health care/assisted living, I find the descriptions of the actions of, diagnoses of, and attitudes towards those with mental illnesses eye-opening and, ultimately, disturbing. I would recommend this book to anyone, especially those in the mental health field.
