Strategic Deception: Rhetoric, Science, and Politics in Missile Defense Advocacy (Rhetoric & Public Affairs)by Gordon R. Mitchell
Synopses & Reviews
Mitchell's analysis yields original insights into the origins and dynamics of Reagan's Star Wars proposal, the postmodern complexities of strategic deception on Patriot missile accuracy in the 1991 Persian Gulf War, as well as fresh perspectives on Theater High Altitude Air Defense and National Missile Defense.
Book News Annotation:
In light of new poetical pressure for a missile system in the US, Mitchell (communication, U. of Pittsburgh) has polished up his 1997 doctoral dissertation for Northwestern University exploring the deceit advocates use to sell the program to the public. He discusses rhetorical and historical perspectives, the elusive leakproof missile shield, Patriot Missile accuracy in the 1991 Gulf War, and dubious physics and power politics in the theater missile defense footprint controversy.
