Publisher Comments:

Pray continually, Scripture exhorts. Do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus. Striving to obey, christian monks of the East joined adoration and compunction in unceasing prayer. In the course of fourteen centuries, they developed what some have called 'the only perfect way of prayer, ' the Jesus Prayer: Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me (a sinner).

How the Jesus Prayer developed and the names by which early Christians addressed Christ.

In contemporary times, the Jesus Prayer has taken on an aura of mysticism of the modern variety. This is a "feel good" mysticism that has an almost technical quality about it. Seen as another of so many "mantras" employed by the mystically inclined, the Jesus Prayer is placed by some in a "spiritual box" to be used as one likes, when one likes.

In fact, the book, "Name of Jesus" dispels these modern myths about this timeless way of prayer that inducts one into the Life of God Himself, making us partakers of the Divine Energies.

Far from being another way to escape from facing our sinfulness, our inclination to sin, the Jesus Prayer brings our sinful condition to the forefront in order to heal it by way of the ongoing transformation, transfiguration via the Grace of God through the power of the Name of Jesus.

It is easy to take up the invocation of the Name of Jesus only to soon relegate it to one of our other "ways" by which to reach God. It is altogether easy to go the next step and reject it outright.

This book lays bare the sobriety of spiritual asceticism which is a sine qua non of the way of prayer in the Name of Jesus. It is a book for everyone.
