The emotional power of If I Stay meets the survival story of Maze Runner
Genetically engineered identical twins Kyle and Connor McAdams were born two years apart. Their parents figured it was safer that way, to increase their odds of survival. Connor was born first, paving an impossibly perfect path for Kyle to follow. He was the best at everything—valedictorian, star quarterback etc. Kyle never thought hed be able to live up, so he didnt even try.
But when Connor, 18, suddenly drops dead of a heart attack, and Kyle learns of other genetically modified kids whove also died on their eighteenth birthdays, hes suddenly motivated—to save his own life. Like Connor and all the rest, Kyle was conceived at the Genesis Innovations Laboratory, where the mysterious Dr. Mueller conducted experiments on them. The clocks ticking as Kyle searches for answers: who was Dr. Mueller really, and what did he do to cause their hearts to stop at eighteen? He must unravel the clues quickly, before, he too, becomes another perfect, blue-eyed corpse.
The fantastical journey begun in Trickster's Girl continues across the wilds of Alaska as Jason, a Native American teen, helps Raven, now a beautiful girl, use ancient magic to heal the earth and save humanity.
In Trickster's Girl, when Kesla's journey comes to an end, she passes the pouch and the quest on to someone else. She picks Jason, a native boy she thinks will be able to finish the job. But in fact, a family feud has cut Jason off from his traditional roots, and he is even more doubtful and resistant than Kesla was. But Raven, now a beautiful girl, is quite persuasive and manages to convince Jason this is something not only that he can do, but that he must if he wants to heal his family and the earth.
Debut author Teri Terry has written a brilliantly compelling, original and thought-provoking novel about an uncomfortably plausible future.
Kyla has been Slated—her memory and personality erased as punishment for committing a crime she cant remember. The government has taught her how to walk and talk again, given her a new identity and a new family, and told her to be grateful for this second chance that she doesnt deserve. Its also her last chance—because theyll be watching to make sure she plays by their rules.
As Kyla adjusts to her new life, shes plagued by fear. Who is she, really? And if only criminals are slated, why are so many innocent people disappearing? Kyla is torn between the need to know more and her instinct for self-preservation. She knows a dangerous game is being played with her life, and she cant let anyone see her make the wrong move . . . but who can she trust when everyone is a stranger?
