Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

When the Kindness Crew, four 27-year old "goodlums" with a cause, packed a motorhome and embarked upon a three-month non-profit marathon known coast to coast as The Extreme Kindness Tour they had one goal in mind: to put compassion into action and commit as many random acts of kindness in as many communities as possible.

Their adventures in altruism were prompted by the will to counteract both grief and fear in the wake of 9-11, but grew to embrace something even larger: spending nights on the street with the homeless, staffing soup kitchens, breaking horses, roofing houses, swabbing decks, delivering flowers, singing songs, visiting hospitals, and staging "kindness protests" as they hugged their ways into the hearts of everyone they met.

This candid and inspirational retelling of the amiable antics that make the Crew's brand of kindness "extreme", fun, and utterly unique includes testimonials, resources, and photographs documenting the tour in living colour. It also calls you to use your own arms and minds to "pay it forward," to take up the torch, and to connect with fellow citizens across generations, cultures, and personal and political crises in order to change the world one person at a time. The Crew's infectious energy offers a "helper's high" and makes this the ideal handbook for teens, parents, teachers, youth workers, managers, and other closet kindness revolutionaries.

The Crew has made national and international headlines from CNN and BBC to armfuls of network TV, radio, and print interviews across North America. Since the tour, the Crew has been inspiring audiences at schools, YMCAs, Rotary Clubs, Chambers of Commerce, and government and corporate head offices with presentations designed to establish Kindness Crews and activities, to raise funds and volunteers for charities, and to extend goodwill through socially responsible programs that build alliances through labours of love. The Kindness Crew is planning a 2005 US tour. Visit their Web site at www.extremekindness.com for more details.
