James Smoak, March 23, 2011 (view all comments by James Smoak)
This book is part of a series of articles on 'The Control of Nature' by two Newton scholars Betty Jo Teeter Dobbs & Margaret C. Jacob who have both written on the English scientific revolution. Dobbs has focused exclusively on Newton's alchemy in her books, "The Foundations of Newton's Alchemy or, The Hunting of the Green Lyon" & "The Janus Faces of Genius: The Role of Alchemy in Newton's Thought". This book is divided in 2 sections - a brief biography of Newton (Dobbs), & a second section dealing with "the role that science & technology have played in the history of Western civilization and culture" (Jacob). This is a good place to start for those individuals who are non-scientists but are interested in how science & technology interact.
