Reframing the Frame of Reason: Trans-Lation in and Beyond Kant and Derrida (Philosophy and Literary Theory)

Reframing the Frame of Reason: Trans-Lation in and Beyond Kant and Derrida (Philosophy and Literary Theory) Cover

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

This singular book, "un livre singulier," as Jacques Derrida describes it in his preface, cannot be placed in any traditionally established genre. Developing Derrida's reflections on the frame, Dunkelsbuhler's unique "trans-lation" quite literally "takes us beyond" the classic distinctions of reason and in the process helps us to discover new frames of understanding.

Book News Annotation:

D<:u>nkelsb<:u>hler runs a foreign-language training and translation agency in Frankfurt, Germany. She ponders the philosophical implications of translation in so far as it destroys the unity of the original work and builds anew on its ashes. Jacques Derrida provides a preface, in French and English; presumably Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) did not respond before press deadline. The original is translated by Max Statkiewicz; no mention is made of a previous edition.
