Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Capturing the effects of time and motion are two of the hottest topics in photography, and photographer Joseph Meehan provides the technical and aesthetic know-how for representing a three-dimensional world in a two-dimensional medium.

Meehan explores the foundations of composition, light, and dimension that create the illusion of movement and passing time, and guides readers through a wide breadth of subjects, from shooting wildlife, sports, and moving backgrounds to creative digital techniques and panning.

Book News Annotation:

Based on some 35 years of experience as a professional photographer, Meehan offers a practical guide to capturing time and motion at the point when a picture is taken. Working from basic to more advanced topics, and illustrated throughout with b&w and color photographs, the text will be of interest to both novice and experienced digital photographers. Coverage includes the language of time and motion, composition in motion photography, optimizing camera functions, fast-action photography, using slow shutter speeds, and photographing sports. Meehan is the former editor of Photography Yearbook and the author of 25 books on photographic technique. Annotation ©2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
