Publisher Comments:

According to Jeff Bezos, the founder, president, and CEO of Amazon.com, Inc., for every 100 hardcover books that Amazon sells, it sells 143 Kindle e-books. Some publishers are considering advertising in their e-books and 83 percent of parents are encouraging their children to read books on an e-reader. When Amazon first launched the Kindle in 2007, it provided what many people felt was a major leap forward for digital publication of mainstream books. Until that point, publication had remained the one point where the Internet had not moved forward all that much – people want the feel of paper and the aesthetic of reading a book they can hold. Now, millions are looking to the low cost, high profit realm of digital publication through Kindle.

This book has been written as a guide for anyone who has found the exciting new prospect of publishing a Kindle book, but didn’t know where to start. You will learn the basics of what the Amazon Kindle provides and what kind of market it has in the largest online bookseller in the world. You will learn what formats are accepted and how the review and publication process works through Amazon to get your book published. You will learn how to change or alter the format or style of your book to match the necessities of the Kindle and how to optimize the format of any text for e-reading.

We interviewed Kindle writers and Amazon experts for this book to provide a complete overview of everything you need to know about publishing your Kindle book. You will learn how to target your book to the right demographic and what you can do to promote your book in Amazon’s online inventory. You will learn the basics of Web promotion and building a business with digital publications on Amazon. You will learn how to create new content and work with Amazon repeatedly to produce new products and most of all you will learn how to monitor for Kindle updates and advances in the electronic book publishing industry. No matter what your goals are, you can start building your very own publishing house in your home with the Kindle technology and this book.

Book News Annotation:

In this how-to guide for authors, Reeser, editor of a literary journal, explains all aspects of electronic publishing, from generating ideas to obtaining an ISBN and getting paid by Amazon. The book begins with an overview of the history of electronic publishing and digital books and a description of Amazon's Kindle electronic reader and its features, then explains step-by-step how to create and publish Kindle e-books, blogs, newspapers, and magazines using Amazon's digital text platform. Other areas covered include marketing and promotion, copyright, security issues, self-employment taxes, and accounting. A final chapter recommends ways to stay abreast of changes in the industry with social media tools and online forums. Appendices offer a list of links to online Kindle resources, a list of websites and blogs related to digital publishing, a primer on HTML, and a sample review slip, review query, and press release. Interested in getting into the digital publishing field but feeling intimidated with the sheer amount of information you think you’ll need to learn first? Author Cynthia Reeser has solved that seemingly overwhelmingly obstacle with her book, “How to Publish a Kindle Book with Amazon.com: Everything You Need to Know Explained Simply”. Already an established writer, Reeser offers sound advice and suggestions for the hopefuls out there.

“How to Publish a Kindle Book with Amazon.com” walks you step by step through the process of converting files into Amazon’s Digital Text Platform, along with helpful hints and tips on writing, editing, pricing, marketing and promotion. She also elaborates upon publishing for blogs, newspapers, and magazines within the Kindle system. I was impressed with the amount of details and descriptions which will make it easy for readers at any computer skill level to follow.

Despite the number of self-publishing avenues available to the would-be writer, Reeser sets the ‘how to’ standard high by employing the same principles set for a traditionally published book. By focusing on this important information, her readers can apply the same methods to their digital works for better success. For example, the traditional publishing process mandates that books go through an enormous amount of editing, revisions, and above all, proofreading, proofreading, and more proofreading. Who wants to pay good money for a book full of misspellings, incomplete information, or poor grammar? Reeser insists that digital publications should be no different and she’s absolutely right. Too many self-published books are out on the market but are in dire need of a major editing overhaul. Therefore, utilizing these traditional publishing standards can make your book stand out above the rest.

Simply put, “How to Publish a Kindle Book with Amazon.com” is the best ‘how to’ book I’ve read in years! Even if you know absolutely nothing about the Kindle, you’ll be well on your way to becoming a digitally published author. Reeser is encouraging and motivating and her information is fun to read while maintaining a professional quality. She displays a contagious excitement for her subject and an eagerness to share her wealth of knowledge with others. A must read for writers looking to get their work ‘out there’ without the rejection letters!
