Publisher Comments:

Capturing one of the most gripping stories in the history of space travel, this account documents the harrowing flight of Apollo 13. Beginning with the launch of the Saturn V juggernaut, this chronicle depicts the explosion that left the spacecraft crippled, followed by the agonizing days the crew spent in near frigid temperatures while the technicians at home worked around the clock to keep them alive. Illustrating how the spirit of daring and ingenuity came to life in the team at Mission Control in order to bring their men home safely, this overview includes never-before-seen documentation of the voyage, an exclusive interview with Jim Lovell, footage of the launch itself, and coverage of the post-flight press conference. With a vast collection of photographs taken by the crew themselves, this record shows why a spaceflight some considered to be a catastrophic failure has since been recognized as one of NASAs truly legendary moments. A bonus CD-ROM features the NASA video documentary "Houston We've Got A Problem," the pre-explosion in-flight television broadcast from Apollo 13, an exclusive video interview with Commander James Lovell, video of the launch of Apollo 13, nearly 600 Hasselblad photographs taken by the Apollo 13 crew, an extensive NASA acronym database, video of the post-flight Apollo 13 press conference, and much more.
