There are secrets in the town of Bon Temps, ones that threaten those closest to Sookie—and could destroy her heart....

But her relationship with Eric Northman is not so clearcut. He and his vampires are keeping their distance…and a cold silence. And when Sookie learns the reason why, she is devastated.

Then a shocking murder rocks Bon Temps, and Sookie is arrested for the crime.

But the evidence against Sookie is weak, and she makes bail. Investigating the killing, shell learn that what passes for truth in Bon Temps is only a convenient lie. What passes for justice is more spilled blood. And what passes for love is never enough…

The end of another series. Overall I thought that the book was ok. Things were tied up neatly and it did keep me reading past the limit I set myself the other night. But I must say that it really didn't have the excitement and intense moments like previous books in the series. The way things with Eric were tied up was anti-climactic to say the least. I know Sookie's time is at an end, but I would like to see some of the other characters get their own series. For instance Mr. C and Diantha or even Hunter. And while the cost of a subscription got in the way from me keeping up with True Blood, it looks like I will be borrowing the DVD seasons from the library as I need a satisfying Sookie fix and hopefully the show will turn out better than this series did. I don't regret ever reading this series, but it is far from one of my favorites.

Why are you posting an excerpt that is supposedly from DEA when it is not from the new book? False advertisement that is. That excerpt is from Dead as a Doornail not Dead Ever After! And seeing that only a small amount of people have received the final book, I will take the other comment posted here with a grain of salt. I did not and will not rate because I have not read it yet.

I was really looking forward to the last Sookie book- unfortunately I found it very disappointing. The amazing tension that Sookie, Eric and Pam always had was completely gone, Sookie and Eric's unfinished story was neatly, quickly and superficially tied up. All of the small conflicts within the entire series were tidily closed with little of the hilarity and passion that were present in the previous books. Many of the characteristics which drew me to the series in the first place were missing- the Southern-flavor, Sookie's sassiness, the strength of the characters' conflicts and resolutions, the great love scenes-the supernatural/normal world balance. Too bad, I really wanted to love it.
