Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

The Fundamentals of Film-Making maps out the practical, technical and creative aspects involved in film-making. It sets out the division of labour, explains how each individual role combines to influence the final piece and how each decision has an impact on the end product.

The text is supported by illustrative visual material throughout, bringing to life the key ideas and concepts covered. Examples range from student work to classics from film-makers at the top of their profession.

The three primary stages of film production – pre-production, production and post-production – are covered through chapters dealing with each of the major departments; script; production; direction; production design; cinematography; sound and post-production. The book concludes with an examination of film analysis and theory providing context and connections between film theory and practice.

It is both a practical guide and creative inspiration to new film-makers looking for a way to navigate the field.
