Publisher Comments:

Written by one of the worlds most respected authorities on graphic design, this guide is an excellent source of inspiration and an intriguing history of some of the best graphic design ideas from the last hundred years. Organized in chronological order, these ideas encompass technical and stylistic concepts from overprinting and rub-on designs to loud typography and white space; objects such as dust jackets and design handbooks; and methods including paper cut-outs and pixilation that formed the art of contemporary graphic design. This book demonstrates the development and evolution of the industry and includes a discussion of the principle technologies, philosophers, and aesthetics of graphic design.
