Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

John is a friendly giant who lives among musical fairies. But the time comes when he must venture out into the world to get a job. Soon, he befriends a king and queen who ask him to stay and work for their family. Through his adventures, Giant John learns what it means to care about people and for them to care about him.

This heart-warming tale of friendship is as fresh today as it was when originally published in 1964. The child-friendly illustrations, complete with the detailed, crosshatching lines, reveal Arnold Lobels great talent as an artist and, most of all, as a storyteller.

Synopsis:

First published in 1964, this heartwarming tale of friendship is as fresh today as when it first appeared. This classic tale by Caldecott Medalist Lobel is now reissued in a beautiful new edition. Full color.

Such a sweet story! Very lovely, original art. I had this book as a child and liked it so much that today I tracked it down for my 3 month old Son. I am sure he will like it throughout his childhood just as my brother and I did.

Giant John was the number one choice in our house some 40-odd years ago! It has remained the most requested read of ALL eleven of my nieces and nephews! It's cute and funny, and helps kids understand the value of friendship. I highly recommend it - "said the King and Queen and Princess and Dog".
