I have had the pleasure of reading Jewel Sample's latest master piece, "Flying Hugs and Kisses." A children's book that deals with the important issues related and surrounding grief and loss. Jewel in a simple child like story has given a healthy perspective on the suffering experienced when a child dies with Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or SIDS. She explains in a way that children can understand and process appropriately what the procedure can be in the loss of a child in this way.

Experiencing monumental loss is difficult for everyone but can happen to any of us at any time. Jewel's book is a good read that can help children to better understand the suffering of others in such circumstances as well as when their own family may loose a dear loved one. Jewel helps the reader to embrace the challenges and overcome them with the great idea of doing something. Doing something important, sending Hugs and Kisses to heaven for the loved one on balloons. Children and parents alike will forever grieve the loss of a child and yet this book can offer hope, understanding, words to describe the emotion and a healthy action to sooth ones soul.

One would be hard pressed to find many books that can walk through such a challenging chapter in a child or a parent's life so gracefully. I highly recommend this book for teachers, parents, doctors and organizations that reach out to introduce the information this book so wonderfully offers in preparation and in response to a loss. Life can never be taken for granted, each moment is precious and this book reminded me of that, today.

Thank you Jewel for taking the time and effort to write a book that can become an essential part of the grief journey reaching out to parents, grandparents and especially children. I am sure you experienced the healing touch that comes with reaching out to others who have experienced the same pain that you have. I especially felt moved by your story as years ago I was affected by the lose of a cousin, a baby boy, to SIDS.

Don't miss the opportunity to invite this amazing person, teacher and Grandma to your next event--she is a blessing!
