"Pelecanos's is a voice that never loses its power. It has an edge and an obscureness that other mystery writers only dream about."

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Derek Strange and Terry Quinn, the team of private investigators who made their debut in "Right As Rain, " are hired to find a teenager turned prostitute and enter their most dangerous territory ever.

Review:

"Pelecanos' prose sizzles with urban street argot and pops with the author's geographic knowledge of D.C.'s underbelly...With its breakneck speed, simmering tensions and flawed but charming protagonists, Hell to Pay shows Pelecanos at the top of his craft, and will leave readers begging for the next hard-boiled episode of this thrilling series." San Francisco Chronicle
