Publisher Comments:

Since its original publication in 1978, the fantastic colors, amazing detail, and sweeping scope of have irresistibly invited tens of thousands of children to plunge their imaginations into its vivid world. This charming allegorical tale is once again available in a new edition.

Synopsis:

After seven goblins try to steal it, the Rainbow is careful never again to touch the earth.

This story and illustrations are unique and beautiful. I would rate this as a 5 except for one disturbing observation. We have read and loved this story and enjoyed the rich illustrations for years-- then my adolescent son pointed out the interesting, somewhat subtle 'relationship' between the red goblin and the orange goblin; it starts out as holding hands, etc, but then is somewhat less subtle in the scene where the lassos snap back on them. Now, we are a pretty liberal family, but I don't feel a children's book is the place to paint this sort of scene! Ul De Rico is an incredible, talented artist, but he shows poor taste in putting this in a children's book!!

While the reprint is not as beautiful as the original - the artwork still shines. A beautiful story of the Rainbow. My favorite childrens book. I buy it for the special children in my life. My daughter loves it too.
