At the beginning of her sophomore year, Marisa is ready for a fresh start and, more importantly, a boyfriend. So when the handsome and popular Derek asks her out, Marisa thinks her long wait for happiness is over. But several bumps in the road—including her parents’ unexpected separation, a fight with her best friend, and a shocking disappointment in her relationship with Derek—test Marisa’s ability to maintain her new outlook. Only the anonymous DJ, whose underground podcasts have the school’s ear, seems to understand what Marisa is going through. But she has no idea who he is—or does she?
In Waiting For You, this third romantic novel from Susane Colasanti, Marisa learns how to “be in the Now” and realizes that the love she’s been waiting for has been right in front of her all along.
"Readers looking for light romance will enjoy Colasanti's (Keep Holding On) depiction of a long-distance relationship that beats the odds, even before it's officially a relationship. After meeting on the beach, Skye, a privileged high-school student, and Seth, a recent graduate whose father owns a failing roller rink, fall head-over-heels in love, but they part unexpectedly before exchanging contact information. A torturous year of separation ends with a reunion on the same beach, and it appears that distance has made the couple's hearts grow fonder. They immediately make plans to visit each other on weekends while Seth attends college in Philadelphia. What follows is a fairly predictable account of tested passion as Skye and Seth overcome hurdles to stay together. Although the two characters are well-defined, what they have in common is as vague as their understanding of each other. Seth never unloads the emotional baggage he carries about his parents' separation and his fears about his own future, while Skye remains preoccupied with concerns about her friends throughout most of the novel. At the start of her senior year in high school, Sara wants two things: to get into a top college and to find true love.Tobey also wants two things for his senior year: to win Battle of the Bands and to make Sara fall in love with him. However, a popular jock named Dave moves in on Sara first. But Tobey’s quirky wit and big blue eyes are hard for Sara to ignore. Plus, he gets the little things that matter to her. Can a slacker rock-star wannabe win the heart of a pretty class brain like Sara?
Hilariously and movingly told through Tobey and Sara’s authentic voices, Susane Colasanti’s debut novel sizzles in its portrayal of two young people searching for The One.
