Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

The most complete book ever written on the subject, this is the fascinating inside story, told by two long-term Disney animators, of the gradual perfection of a relatively young and particularly American art form — which no other movie studio has been able to equal.

Review:

"[A] magnificent volume...essential for film collections and a feast for the most casual peruser." Library Journal

Synopsis:

Traces the development of Disney animation, explains what made Disney's style unique, and features original sketches and drawings revealing the origins of Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters.

Synopsis:

Written by the ultimate Disney insiders, this "bible" of animation has become a legend in itself. This volume seeks to explain the process that makes Disney's animation unique--what sets the work of the Disney studios apart from other animation products. Here are original sketches of best-loved Disney characters, how memorable movie sequences were made, and anecdotes about working with Walt. Full-color throughout. National ads/media.

While I was in school training to be a 3D animator, one of my professors had us watch a documentary about Frank Thomas and his animation partner, Ollie Johnston. I thought I would be bored out of my gourd, but it was wonderful. I ran out and bought this book, which is beautifully laid out and filled with one motivation after another to keep this beautiful art of animation alive.
